Wisdom Wednesday

"Many a false step is made by standing still."

Earlier this year, while on a trip to visit friends in LA, I made a pit stop to Urban Outfitters and a little disposable camera caught my eye. "Fortune Camera" is what it was called - a random fortune printed on every shot. "That seems pretty cool," I said to myself, and straight to the checkout line I went. Well, fast forward to 10 months later and I finally got around to finishing up my camera and developing the film. There were some silly shots, some sad shots, and the walk down memory lane was an interesting one. Then, one fortune stopped me in my tracks: "Many a false step is made by standing still." I stopped and stared at the photo and thought about the past six months. If you've been wondering why my Wisdom Wednesdays have taken a halt in the last couple of months, the short answer is I was very much in a rut with every aspect of my life. It wasn't until the beginning of this month that everything finally started to fall into place again. And why is that, you might ask? Because I started moving again. And by that I mean I made a change to keep going. I stopped standing still and decided that it was time to get back into my old step and to focus on all the things that have made me happy. And now, we're only a week or so away from another new year. What a great time to stop standing still and to get moving. Why wait for 2013 to arrive? Just start moving now.

Happy Wednesday, everyone. It's good to be back.

BCBGeneration #SpendTimeInStyle

You guys will probably be the first ones to agree with me that finding time to do all the things you need and want to do isn't always easy. Take me, for example. I love my blog to death, but these last couple of months I haven't had as much time to work on it with as much dedication as I would have liked. But, one thing that I've realized is, that in life, even though there might not be enough hours in the day to do it all, there is more than enough time to do all the things you love. So, with that I've never given up on my blog and I am determined to keep going and to make time for it. Whatever it is - family, friends, an event, work, laundry, the gym - if it means enough to you, you can and will make time for it. So, if you're finding it hard to do everything you need to do, just take a moment and see where all your time is going. I'm sure that after a few minutes of reflection, you'll find that there are just enough minutes in the day to make every second count.

Burgundy Basics

Zara Pants; JJ Basics Sweater Vest via Nordstrom; Guess Denim Jacket; Alfani Heels c/o Macy's; Forever 21 Necklace

"Oxbood" is the color this season, but I prefer to call it by its original name, burgundy. I picked up these pants at Zara and I find myself reaching for them more than my jeans. The fit, the comfort, the color -- it's all great. The sweater vest and denim jacket are old goodies from the depths of my closet. I swear I have the sweater vest in three others colors (it's the perfect basic!). The denim vest is (and has always been) a size or two too large, but I kind of like the baggy fit. Finished off the outfit with my favorite leopard sling-backs. Simple, easy, and polished.

Crisp and Cozy

Hi, everyone! Remember me? It's been a while since I've done a proper outfit post -- daylight savings time and San Francisco rain have NOT been kind to me. Nonetheless, I'm back and ready to blog! The weather here in the city has been slightly unpredictable. One minute it's warm, the next minute it's cool and crisp. So, us San Franciscans have to adjust accordingly. When the sun's out, but the wind is blowing, I like to grab a pair of boots, throw on a pair of tights and a sweater, and call it a day. I have been living in these boots by Pink & Pepper. They're perfect for the unpredictable weather and easy on my feet. Did I mention how comfortable they are? I got this cozy knit cardi via Poshmark a little while back and finally put it to use. It's got a great cream color and tons of pockets -- who doesn't love pockets? I finished off the outfit with a delicate necklace by a San Francisco jewelry designer, Margaret Elizabeth and a snazzy head wrap turban by Nicole Miller. Now, I'm not one that usually wears turbans, but I do feel pretty cool for pulling this one off. What do you guys think?

Macy's Fall Fashion Event with Mandi Line

As you know, last weekend was my Fall Fashion event with Macy's! It was absolutely a thrill to be able to be a part of something so exciting. I had so much from picking out my outfit to sitting before the show and snapping photos with my fellow blogger buds. It was especially exciting being able to chat with Mandi Line, the stylist of Pretty Little Liars (only my favorite guilty pleasure show ever!). She is an absolute gem and so hilarious! Overall, it was a great turnout and not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I have to take a moment to thank EVERYONE who was able to make it out and show their support -- it meant so much to me to see all of you there! xo

SEE Eyewear - SF Opening Party

SEE Eyewear 651 Market Street San Francisco, CA 94105

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the VIP opening party for SEE Eyewear's newest location in San Francisco. It was a fun event filled with familiar faces, delicious creme brûlée from the Creme Brûlée cart, wine from Four Vines Wine, and of course, stylish frames. Special guest, Mondo Guerra (from Project Runway!) was there to help celebrate both the new location and his special line, "Mondo by SEE." Mondo's new line will be SEE's first ever collaboration, and a portion of all sales will be donated to amfAR, an international organization dedicated to AIDS research. Sadly, the new frames won't be available until early Spring 2013, but I know it will be worth the wait!

Food Friday: Magnolia Gastropub & Brewery

Magnolia Gastropub & Brewery 1398 Haight Street San Francisco, CA. 94117

MAGNOLIA

Ah, there's just something satisfying about a good burger, isn't there? A little while back, I made a trip to Magnolia Pub and Brewery in the Haight. After passing by the place more times that I can count, I knew that it was more than necessary that I give the place a shot.

Top: Urban Outfitters; Shorts: Forever 21; Heels: Zara; Necklace: Boutique in SF

So, something happened to me in the time that I moved from LA back to SF -- I can no longer walk in heels. I have oodles and oodles of heels in my closet, but they've all taken a backseat to my flats, sandals, and boots. Thanks a lot, San Francisco. So, how do I retrain myself to walk in heels? Start small. These Zara heels are the perfect little teachers. They're comfortable, classic, and I still gain an inch or two when I walk. I must be the only girl on the planet who prefers to walk in kitten heels -- meh, luckily, that doesn't bother me at all.

Neiman Marcus Cusp Launch Party

CUSP

A couple weeks past, I attended Neiman Marcus' Cusp Launch Party with my favorites, Kathleen & Cindy. We laughed over drinks and took a million photobooth and mirror-shot photos. Always have a great time with these two!

Jeans: BDG via Urban Outfitters; Heels and Blouse: Forever 21

These jeans (or jeggings) have been with me since college, and I only wish I had them in more colors. I bought them at a steal for $10 (holla fo' a balla...on a budget) at Urban Outfitters and since I've rediscovered them in my closet, I just can't get enough. The blouse is a recent acquisition from Forever 21. I just loved the classic floral print and am definitely looking forward to wearing it with more things. The heels, which you've seen time and time again, are my classic black pair for Forever 21 -- best $24.80 I've ever spent.

Food Friday: Chile Pies

Chile Pies 314 Church Street San Francisco, CA. 94114

CHILEPIES

During the spring semester of senior year of high school (way back when), we celebrated "Pie Fridays" every single Friday in my AP English class -- yes, we took senioritis to the next level. It was then, when I truly appreciate a good piece of pie. Fast forward many years later and I'm still quite fond of the pie family. One thing I have never really experienced, however, was a good pot pie -- that is, until now.

pancakeLEFTOVERS: July

NO WORRIES.

Life without a Mac has been terribly hard in regards to my blogging game, but now that it is August, I am going to try 10x harder to get up posts and keep it up with what I have! I can't tell you how sad I feel when I don't get to blog. Since I haven't really been able to upload and edit photos, I thought I'd give you a glimpse of what I've been up to via the eyes of my iPhone. In a nutshell, this past month I've just been working and living life! Stepping away from my blog has definitely given me even more motivation to keep going and to blog better! I plan to redesign my site (any website designers out there?? I want to hear from y-o-u) and update as frequently as possible given my computer-less situation. I have some really cool events, giveaways, and projects to share with you all -- so definitely stay tuned! xo

Top: c/o Blaque Muse; Skirt: Forever 21; Wedges: Jeffrey Campbell; Necklace: H&M

My closet has seen an influx of orange, but I can't say I'm mad. In fact, I'm pretty sure there's more where that came from. Truth is, I'm trying to fill my closet with every color of the rainbow, and when I find pieces like this F21 skirt, that mission becomes much easier. The top is another goodie from Blaque Muse, and I've worn it at least 3 times since I received it. Pieces like this make dressing up and down SO much easier. I can wear it to work or out to dinner, and that is something I love. I have to admit that my closet is also going through somewhat of a revamp. I have three large piles of clothes to donate/sell and I'm really just focusing on getting pieces that are classic and refined. I'll let you know how that one goes.

Benefit Cosmetics: Ultra Plush Lip Gloss

A little while back, I hinted that I was working on a fun project with Benefit Cosmetics. Now, months later, the final product is done, and I'm so excited to share it with you! Here's a little video campaign I was in, along with two other beautiful Bay Area bloggers, Krystal of This Time Tomorrow and Whit of Britt + Whit, for the launch of Benefit's new lip glosses!

Stay tuned for some behind the scenes footage and more!

Pumpkin Soup

BLAQUEMUSE BLAQUEMUSE1 BLAQUEMUSE2 BLAQUEMUSE3 BLAQUEMUSE4 BLAQUEMUSE5
Dress: c/o Blaque Muse; Sweater: Guess; Necklace: H&M; Belt: Old Navy; Wedges: Soda

There's nothing I love more than a beautiful dress, because truth be told, I'm a dress-kinda-gal. When I received this dress in the mail, the first thing everyone said to me was, "Chanda, that is so you." And, well, it is. Maybe it's the beautiful cut, the little details in the sleeves, or the pretty little print -- whatever it is, when I saw it, it instantly made its way to the top of my favorites. Sadly, summer is making it's way to SF a little earlier than planned. If you know anything about the summer in SF, you know that it's the coldest winter you can experience! So, I'm trying to get as much wear out of my beautiful new dress before the cold sets in, ha!  For those of you who like the dress, make sure to hop on over to Blaque Muse and check out all the other fun items for sale! (I also really love this cute cocktail dress.) Even better, get 20% off your order when you use the code BLAQUEMUSE!

In other news, if it seems like I've been MIA for a bit, I do apologize. Work has been keeping me busy and sadly, my little baby macbook that has been with me through countless college essays, hundreds of outfit photos, and bunches of blog posts has been acting up like crazy, making blogging a little harder than it has to be. I really do have a lot of good things coming your way... especially next week (eeeep!!), so I do hope you'll bear with me. To make it even more worth your while, I have a lot of giveaways for the month of June! First one starts soon :)

Oh You, You Have Been Loved by Someone Good

LACEPANEL LACEPANEL5 LACEPANEL3 LACEPANEL6 LACEPANEL1
Gifted silk top; Skirt: Forever 21; Boots: c/o 80%20

I have somewhat of a weakness for maxi's. They're so easy; so comfy. How can I help that I have so many in my closet? The answer is: I cannot. Ha! This is my first pair of non knee-high boots, and I've gotta say that I'm a fan. These 80%20 Rina Booties happen to have a hidden wedge too, so I get extra height, as well as extra comfort. I've been a big fan of 80%20 for some time now and was thrilled to receive these booties in the mail a while back. Next one the wish list? Their Pepper bootie in bone! Or their Edie loafer in black. Swoon, right??  In other news, the three day weekend was so perfect and pleasant. I vote that all weeks have three day breaks.
