If the way I rang in the new year is any indication of what's to come, I can say with all certainty that it will be a very good year. My evening was low-key, mostly filled with some bubbly and popcorn with my favorite person at my favorite local bar. In fact, it was actually my afternoon that proved to be a bit more action packed. I spent the day with my special someone walking up and down the streets of The Mission. The weather was beautiful and it seemed as though everyone had a certain je ne sais quoi about them. Maybe it was the promise of a new year that had everyone in smiles, or perhaps it was that San Francisco decided to delight us with one more day of sun before the year's end. Whatever the reason, the afternoon felt happier than most other days. We walked through sidewalks filled with sales, marveled at the beautiful street art in Clarion Alley, refueled with delicious burritos, and stumbled upon an urban swing, which proved to be the best part of my afternoon. As I swung from a tree branch in the middle of Valencia, all I could think about was how lucky I was to live in such an amazing city. It's been years (and I do mean years) since I've taken the time to just swing on a swing set. Other than providing me with some afternoon delight, the swing was a pleasant reminder that life moves pretty fast. It's important to stop and enjoy it once a while. If that means being a grown adult and swinging from a tree in the middle of the street, then so be it.
