Food Friday: Monsoon Cafe

Monsoon Cafe 1212 3rd Street PromenadePhotobucket

In college, one of my absolute favorite things to do was to take some alone time, head over to Santa Monica, and walk along the promenade. I found it to be my "spot" away from it all, even though I was amongst hundreds of people each time. Another reason why Santa Monica is so dear to me is because it is home to my two favorite sushi restaurants in all of LA. I had some time to head down to one of them while I was in town and I wasted no time ordering my favorite options.

Monsoon Cafe has an amazing, amazing happy hour that is super wallet-friendly. Everything, (yes, everything) is $4.00. Yes, you read that right - $4.00! You can have a full on meal - drink, appetizer, main course - all for $20 or under. When you're a starving student in college $20 for a full on meal is fantastic. I'm no longer a starving student, but I am budget conscious and try to get to get most bang for my buck, since I'm always hungry. Even though Monsoon saves you dollars, they do not skimp on the flavor. My favorite roll is the Salmon Tempura Roll. The salmon is always fresh and the tempura gives it that extra something your taste buds are looking for. The calamari appetizer is gigantic and comes with a unique curry-flavored dipping sauce. I always order the chicken potstickers, as well, because they're just so good. The sauce is a little tangy, which I also happen to love. I admit that I like to stick to my favorite picks when it comes to Monsoon, but I have tried almost everything on the menu (no joke). For $4.00, it's really easy to get carried away, but if you do, you still won't be breaking the bank.
