Food Friday: The House

The House 1230 Grant Street San Francisco, CA 94133
Photobucket

If there is any Food Friday post you must bookmark and remember, it is this one. Ladies and gents, today we are going to talk about The House, which is quite possibly my number one favorite restaurant of them all.  An Asian Fusion restaurant located in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco probably wouldn't be your first choice of restaurants to try in an area predominantly known for its tasty Italian food. Who goes to North Beach for Asian cuisine? It sounds a bit risky... kind of like ordering steak in a restaurant known for its seafood, right? Normally, I would say yes, but in this case, that couldn't be farther from the truth. Last Friday was the mister's birthday, so I wanted to surprise him to something special. The House was all that and more. When we sat down for dinner at 6PM it was already a full house, which is always a good sign in my book. We received our menus, along with a complimentary pickled cucumber appetizer, and struggled over what to order because literally everything sounded so delicious. (You can imagine how much harder the decision making process was once the waitress told us about the specials for the night.) What we quickly found out, however, was that absolutely no item off the menu would be a bad choice.

Gift Basket Taupe Shift Dress: c/o LuLus.com; Kitten Heels: Nine West (similar style); Necklace &; Ring: Forever 21; Watch: Kenneth Cole; Tights: Target; Photos by: Tim Wong

LuLus.com sent me this darling Gift Basket Taupe Shift Dress and it quickly became one of my favorite ones to wear. I love the color combos, and the fact that the dress is simple, but still alluring in the the details. But what do I love most? That beautiful back bow! I can't express enough how easy it is to slip this dress on and just walk out the door feeling comfortable and complete. It was sold out for a while, but luckily for you, LuLu's just restocked! And don't worry if taupe isn't your color,  because it also comes in red, blue, and mint green! I'm already contemplating getting it in another color... hmm.

This is my final look in my series with LuLus.com. If you missed any of the other other posts, you can check out them out here and here. A big and special thanks to the lovely team at LuLu's for the opportunity!!

Wisdom Wednesday

“Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always your choice.” -- Wayne Dyer

"Springside Bowl" Look Book, LuLu's, Spring 2012

The other day, I read this quote that a friend had posted as a status. I sat there for a few minutes really contemplating whether or not I liked the quote. Then I came to the conclusion that its raw and tough-love-like nature was a perfect reminder for all to hear.

I can never understand why people always complain so much. Here we have a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black, because I'm quite guilty of whining over things from time to time. I would like to think that I have been much more mindful of it, as of late, but that might just be wishful thinking. In any case, complaining can only take you so far. You whine, you feel sort of better after letting go of some inner angst, and then you think about it again and feel upset. Sound familiar? If not, it certainly does with me. But really think about the act of complaining. What does it get you aside from maybe 10 minutes of relief after you've expressed your dissatisfaction for a certain situation or a certain someone? Nothing, really. So why not just channel all the anger, sadness, worry, pain, whatever it is you feel towards something better? Let it motivate you. Let it help you. Do not wallow in pain and don't let someone dictate how you feel. You are in charge of you. Be better. Waste your time crying over spilled milk, or clean up the milk and get moving to get some more. In the end, all the choices we make are our own. So, be miserable, or be motivated.

Alice + Olivia x Atlantic-Pacific SF Launch Party

Photobucket
Blazer: Gap (similar); Striped Top: Nordstrom (similar); Purse, Heels (similar), and Necklace: Forever 21; Watch: Kenneth Cole; Pants: H&M (similar styles here, and here)

Last week, the beautiful Blair of Atlantic-Pacific hosted the Alice + Olivia SF Launch Party. It was a packed house complete with bubbly drinks, sweet cake pops, stylish San Franciscans, and a DJ providing a great background soundtrack. I have to take a minute to gush that Blair is one of my absolute favorite bloggers and fashion inspirations, but who doesn't feel that way? So, it was such a treat to finally meet her in person. If you haven't seen Blair's blog (which would honestly be a shock to me!), you must, must head over and view it. Alice + Olivia, the brainchild of Stacey Bendet, is a fun addition to Fillmore Street. It's bright, full of color and charm, and carries some of the most alluring pieces around. I fell in love with this beautiful white beaded cocktail dress, as well as many of the other feminine pieces in the store. It was great seeing so many blogger buddies at the event and even more awesome finally putting some faces to names!

Food Friday: Pier 23

Pier 23 Cafe The Embarcadero
Photobucket

Food Friday! It's here! First, I have to apologize at how unsavory these photos look, haha. It was quite hard to take photos of food on a red table cloth, under a red heat lamp. Hopefully, however, you will still find them somewhat tasty :) Last month for my birthday (I know, these photos are OLD), the mister took me out to one of his favorite food spots in the city, Pier 23.

When LuLus.com generously sent me this beautiful Winding Vines Striped Green Skirt, I knew I wanted to do something fun with it. The rain finally went away long enough to do some outdoor outfit shots, so Tim and I got straight to it. We got to scouting in Hayes Valley, where I knew we'd find some whimsical things. It seemed as though at every corner we turned, there was another wall waiting to serve as the backdrop to another photo, which made shooting this outfit that much more fun. Aside from the bright pop of color, one thing I really love about this skirt is the flattering high-low cut. A high-low skirt is definitely a staple in any closet. I purchased the heels a long, long while back and if you can believe it, this was my first time wearing them out. They're fairly comfortable, which leads me to wonder why I haven't already worn them. All in all, I think this outfit was a perfect choice to ring in the spring! Anyhoo, I hope you enjoyed part two of three with LuLu's! If you missed part one, you can check it out here. Stay tuned for part three! It's coming soon :)

Wisdom Wednesday

"The most important lesson I have learned from my parents is to live what you love, and love what you live. Discover your strengths and find what truly brings you happiness. All you really need is already within you, you just have to be daring enough to find it and courageous enough to pursue it. Life has no limitations, except the ones you make." -- Nicole Warne via Refinery 29

"Day Tripper" Look Book, For Love and Lemons, Spring 2012

Life is such a beautiful thing, full of inspiration and potential. I think once you realize that the only person who can hold you back, is yourself, that is when you really open yourself up to each and every opportunity. If you want something, go for it. If you don't get it, try again. There are so many things that can happen, but the important thing is to start. And once you've reached something, don't get comfortable. Keep working towards the next thing, like you never had the first. When you love what you do, and do what you love, then you have found they key to success.

Neiman Marcus x 20 Years of Glamour by Louboutin

Photobucket

And the round of events continues! Last week, I attended Neiman Marcus's "20 Years of Glamour by Louboutin" event, where I was able to preview his special anniversary capsule shoe collection. It was such a treat being able to see Louboutin's amazing collection, as so many of the shoes were so artistically done. Below are some of the ones that caught my eye. Special thanks to Maggie and the rest of the Neiman Marcus team for such a delightful event!

Food Friday: Sweet Maple

Sweet Maple 2101 Sutter Street San Francisco, CA 94115
Photobucket

If you're in San Francisco, and you're looking for a place to sit down with friends and have a quality breakfast or brunch, look no further than Sweet Maple. Located in Lower Pac Heights, Sweet Maple will have a line out the door and wait of up to an hour and a half, if you get there during their rush hour. I've tried to go to this place on three separate occasions. The first time I went, it was too late and they wouldn't seat us. The second time I went, they were closed for a holiday (oops). Finally, the third time I went, I had to wait an hour, but I finally made it in. It's not hard to see why so many are willing to wait, either. Each plate is made with tender love and care and each bite is full of blissful flavor. I ordered the South of The Border Scramble, which had chorizo, cherry peppers, avocado, pepper jack cheese, and a side of fresh salsa. Everything about my scramble was perfect. It was the right size and had the right amount of each ingredient. I washed it all down with my first every Bloody Mary! It was so good and I don't know why it took me so long to taste one! The boy ordered Two Eggs Sunny Side Up with a side of Millionaire's Bacon. If you are a bacon lover and you haven't had Millionaire Bacon, you cannot call yourself a bacon lover. What is it? Well, I can't remember exactly, but I do know it's coated in brown sugar and maybe something else? Our friend ordered Two Eggs Scrambled with Millionaire's Bacon, and a side of French Toast. When his plate came out, I nearly drooled over the french toast. Next time, I'm at Sweet Maple, I'm going for it.

Something Old, Something New

It's raining cats and dogs here in San Francisco, which is really kind of a bummer because I purchased a few new spring wardrobe essentials. Since I can't snap some fun outfit photos outside, I thought I would at least show you how I am planning to wear some of my new pieces.

Photobucket

I'm not one to draw attention to my lower half with brightly colored pants, but these neon pink trousers were just calling my name, so I said "What the heck," grabbed a pair and headed straight to the fitting room. I was surprised that they fit and even more surprised that I purchased them. They're loud, daring, fun, and colorful. This is one way I'd wear them, but I can see myself toning them down with a pair of classic black heels and a crisp white blazer. They're at H&M right now for $14.95 and a little birdie told me they're now buy two, get one free!

I knew I was getting myself into trouble when I walked into Forever 21, but I did it anyways. Right now, there are a plethora of spring skirts just waiting for a new home. I gave three of them a sweet spot in my closet and this is one of them. Maxi dresses and maxi skirts are my thing. This is sheer, lace panel skirt is similar to a black one I have. (If you need a reminder on what my black one looks like, you can click here and take a gander.) I recently received the Rina Bootie in the Natural color c/o 80%20 Shoes and can't wait to wear them out. I want to wear this outfit with an H&M floral blouse (similar to the print on these pants), but I walked out of the store without the blouse. Let's be honest though, I'm picking it up when I score more pants.

Hello, skirt #2! I saw this lone skirt hanging in the racks amongst other brightly colored items, but I only had eyes for its beautiful design. The print, the colors, the buttons, the bow - it was love. When I got home, I noticed how much I had to go with it, and that is when I knew it was meant to be.

You guessed it! Skirt #3. I don't have very much green in my closet, but I've found it to be quite the flattering color. This pleated maxi came with the gorgeous braided belt shown above, which is a two-for one win in my opinion. It's reminiscent of Little House on the Prairie, which isn't really my thing, but I picked it up anyways. It's always good to have some pieces in your closet that you would't normally have. Now, for the pièce de résistance (drum roll please...) my new vintage Hermès flats. I actually picked them up last month, before my trip to LA, but I have yet to wear them out. Truth is, they are sitting on my shelf, and that is probably where they will stay as more of an art piece, rather than footwear. I found them at a vintage store here in the city and just tried them on for fun. I never thought I'd actually buy them, but I'm glad I did. If anything, they'll be a great investment piece in the years to come.
