Food Friday: Jones

Jones 620 Jones Street

Okay, so I know Thanksgiving just passed for us here over in the US, but there's always more room for food porn, right? A couple weekends ago, I finally made my way over to 620 Jones for their Sunday Brunch. It's been on my bucket list for the whole year (yes, the whole year, really), so I was delighted when my plans finally came into fruition. Some things to know about Jones: 1. It's in the TL (but don't let that stop you) and 2. They only do brunch on Sundays and don't take reservations for small parties, which means get there good & early.

The brunch menu has something for everyone. Whether you're into the sweets (hello, french toast) or savories (steak and veggie hash? yummm), they've got it -- and you'll want it. I had such a hard time deciding what to pick that my choice ended up being a game time decision. I went for my standard huevos rancheros (a favorite brunch time option of mine) and boy was it tasty. The dish had a nice blend of salsa, black beans, and avocados, and while the eggs looked pretty, my only qualm was that the yolk wasn't as runny as I typically like mine to be. (Perhaps I should have asked for sunny side up, to replace the fried option.) The chips were a nice touch. At first, I was a bit hesitant to do chips in the morning, but they ended up giving the dish a nice crunch to each little bite. Aside from the food, the only other improvement I'd like to see is faster service. We ordered bottomless mimosas, but the staff definitely seemed as though they didn't want you to take advantage -- that is, until they realized we weren't leaving until we got our money's worth. I'll definitely be back to see how the bar is at night, as I imagine it to be full of charm and character, with tasty drinks included.
