Hair How To's with Mark Hill Hair

Most of you know my hair to be straight (as I rarely let me curly q's rein free). But as of late, I've been trying to challenge myself to put away the hair straightener and give my natural curls some TLC. I have to preface this post by saying I try / use A LOT of different products. I love trying new things, because, well, how else can you figure out what you like/don't like or what works?

I'll be sharing a series of beauty-inspired posts sporadically on the blog. Everything from my must, must have killer curly-hair cocktail of products, to what I've tried and liked (or even disliked). Today, I'll be chatting about Mark Hill's new hair care line - especially made to protect hair from heat styling tools. So, let's count this one as my first official hair post, shall we? Here we go!

When you're styling hair, it's important to make sure the products you're using are right for your hair and can help protect it against any extra styling (think blow dryer, curling iron, hair straightener, etc.). Whenever I reach for any sort of heat styling tool, I always, always make sure that I spritz on some heat guard. Even if I'm giving my hair a quick blow dry or diffuse, I never forget to protect my strands. Lately, I've been using Mark Hill's Extreme Heat Protection Spray right after I put in my leave-in conditioner and right before I blow dry my hair at night (if I plan to straighten it the next morning), or right before I lightly diffuse my hair before heading out the door. Truth be told, when I want to rock my curls, I typically try to save them from extra heat damage and opt for air-drying. Still, when I absolutely need to diffuse, I do.

But, what's really started to become a must-do for me is a couple pumps of Mark Hill's Volumizing Blow Dry Mousse. I know what you're thinking - I thought you said you liked to air dry? Well, yeah... that's my secret! After adding my leave-in conditioner, I put a couple pumps of mousse in my hair and then let that baby air dry. Not only do my locks seal in extra moisture, but my curls have extra volume (and not in that frizzy kind-of-way, either). I've found that just two pumps is enough for my long locks - you definitely do not to lather on mousse of any sort, or you will look like a grease baby. Trust.

Once my hair has had enough time to soak in my curly-hair cocktail (which I'll chat about in more detail in an upcoming post), and is almost at it's drying point, I give it a couple quick sprays of Mark Hill's Anti-Humidity Shine Spray. Now this is a product I never really knew I needed to add to my routine until I did. I've tried a couple sprays in the past and they left my hair looking really shiny. Like really shiny - people would often ask me if my hair was still wet (aka not a good look). So, I was a tad weary about trying out another shine spray. I gave this one a chance and found that less is more. A spray or two and you're good! My hair's frizz level goes down a notch or two when I add this on - but remember, you need to do it right before it's at its drying point. I primarily add this to the ends and the back of my hair where my frizz level is usually out of control. Lastly, I give my hair just one full spray of Mark Hill's Hairspray and I'm done. Even when I touch my hair throughout the day (which really you shouldn't do if your hair is curly because it just adds way more frizz, haha), it keeps everything locked in and doesn't flake. Love.
