Food Friday: Padrecito

Padrecito 901 Cole Street San Francisco, CA 94117

Ah, yes - a new Food Friday post to feast your eyes on! A couple weekends ago, I dined at Cole Valley's Padrecito with my fave photog friend, Melissa. We caught up over delicious drinks, lots and lots of guacamole, and the tastiest tacos in town. Let me start off by saying Padrecito has been on my list for some time. Back in 2013, I eagerly awaited its opening. Having dined at Mamacita many a time, I couldn't wait for this gem to often. So, it's embarrassing that I never found the time to visit the restaurant once it finally did open. Still, as the saying goes, better late or never. Was it worth the wait? You betcha.

Before visiting a restaurant, I usually like the take a peek at the menu. I didn't get a chance to do so before visiting Padrecito, so I wasn't sure how similar the menu would be to Mamacita's. I was happy to find that both the drink and the menu items were fairly different. While Mamacita's menu seems to offer more seafood options, Padrecito's appears to be focused on hearty meat, which makes perfect sense in my mind. I went for the Grilled Skirt Steak tacos, while Melissa chose the Braised Pork Belly tacos, but not before we pigged out on endless chips, salsa, and guac. (And for those wondering, do go for the guac - you get SO much in one order.) My tacos did not disappoint - the meat was tender, the seasoning was mouth-watering, and the portions were perfect. Melissa enjoyed her tacos too (I mean how could you not when you get a taco with bacon-like belly??).

And the drinks? Don't even get me started. First of all, the drink menu is adorable. It features hand-drawn depictions of each drink. Such a smart idea! I ordered La PiƱata, which had tequila, pineapple, lime, rosemary, and the kicker - serrano chile. Honestly, this drink might be my favorite cocktail around (and this is coming from a beer gal, y'all). It's sweet with a spicy kick that makes your mouth go "wow." The spicy kick is clutch. Just so good.

The space is charming - lots of natural light pouring in through the windows, a beautiful bar area, and hardwood accents all around. They even project a movie (in spanish!) on the wall. Those looking to check this place out - get there early. We were seated right when the place opened at 5:30 for dinner and the seats filled up not too long after we arrived. The charm and character of this place makes it a perfect fit for Cole Valley. I'm already planning my next visit. I'm hoping to try out their brunch... I hear they make some mean pancakes!
