Food Friday: Souvla

pancakeSTACKER Blog x Food Friday x Souvla Hayes Valley

Thanksgiving just happened, but you're still thinking about brunch, right? Don't worry - I get it, y'all. Lucky for you, I'm on that same wavelength, so I present to you my latest pick for your weekend nomz. A little while back, I was lucky enough to preview Souvla's new brunch menu. I first discovered Hayes Valley's best-kept hidden gem, after trying them out, here. Ever since that day, I knew I was only touching the tip of the iceberg. Then, earlier last month, our paths crossed once again, after I went on a walking Instagram food tour with some instafamous foodie friends (yes, I just used "instafamous" - please cringe with me and continue reading). And then, our paths crossed one more time, when I was invited back to taste their delicious new brunch menu.

It's no secret that Hayes Valley is perhaps my favorite neighborhood in all of San Francisco. I hope that I'll never be able to rid myself of the joy that I feel when I walks up and down those streets. From the cute boutiques to the tasty treats (Chantal Guillon, anyone?), I just eat it alllll up. Gobble it up, if we're being festive over here. So, knowing that my favorite restaurant on the block is now open for weekend brunch means the streets of Hayes will be seeing this face probably way more than they'd like.

So what's on the menu, you wonder? Let me spill the beans. Start off your day with a glass of rosé. You can get it by the glass, or the bottle if you're feeling particularly free, or just simmer down a bit and ask for their Greek punch. You can't lose either way. Then, order the sausage. It's everything you want - fresh, savory and just enough to get you warmed up. Move on to the lamb and eggs, if you're into breakfast sandwiches, this one is better. That warm pita bread will make your mouth water, and those eggs will fill you right. But it's best to be balanced, so let's not forget about those sweet treats. I've never been that into Greek yogurt. I'd be lying if I told you otherwise. But, I could get down with what Souvla is serving up - organic yogurt with fresh persimmons (the fruit for this season), toasted hazelnuts (basically Nutella, guys) and honey. I'm sorry, but who knew yogurt could be this good? End your brunch journey with a churro-like take on toast. It wouldn't be San Francisco without the toast. Know this. Accept this. At least this toast comes with more yogurt and berries. That's more than I can say about that other toast
