Food Friday: La Mar

La Mar 1 1/2 Pier 100

Hello, happy hour! I've come to live by the motto that every hour is happy. But, that doesn't mean that some hours can't be extra happy, especially when there's bomb bites and delicious drinks involved. Am I right? A few weeks ago, we were treated to post-work drinks and dishes at La Mar to experience some of their new items for the season. My office is just a short 10-15 minute walk away from La Mar, so I consider it a great spot to hit before making the journey home. Located along the Embarcadero, it's the perfect spot along the water to catch the sunset. I also love the bright colors both the restaurant and food/drinks embody - just adds to the "happy" vibes. Speaking of the food and drinks, let's talk about them, shall we?

The bites. I'm big on seafood, so La Mar's menu is right up my alley. The restaurant is rooted in Peruvian roots, so it's no surprise that seafood dominates the menu. La Mar is arguably best known for its ceviche - no surprise, considering it's Peru's national dish. La Mar does it well, with about 3-5 different styles to choose from on the menu. Another dish La Mar does great is their whipped potato + seafood bites known as "Causas." There are three to choose from - crab, tuna or veggie. I enjoy all three, but am more partial to the crab, because crab is life. But, perhaps my favorite items on La Mar's menu is their Japanese-inspired, Peruvian style sashimi. The salmon and beef are to die for - don't skip ordering these when you visit. The drinks are always bright and fun - I enjoy their prickly pear concoctions, but their non-alcoholic "chicha morada" tastes just like Christmas, and is definitely worth trying. As I mentioned La Mar is perfect for happy hour and you can't miss it - 7 days a week from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. aka many opportunities to stop by!
